Once your PDA is connected to ActiveSync the application will be installed on the PDA and can be found under the Start/Programs section. Uninstallation ============== - On the desktop computer, click "Remove" for AXIS Installation Monitor, Start/Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs. - On the PDA, click "Remove" for AXIS Installation Monitor, Start/Settings/System/Remove Programs. Recommendations =============== - Observe the hardware requirements for running AXIS Installation Monitor. See product details at www.axis.com for more information. - Make sure that the PDA network configuration is correct and that no more than one network is active when running AXIS Installation Monitor. (For example using wireless and a wired connection at the same time is not recommended.) - Avoid using DHCP if possible and assign a static IP address to the PDA. Either use a valid address for the network that the PDA will be connected to, or use an Auto IP / Link Local address. - Don't configure the PDA to use DHCP if you are going to connect directly to a camera using a crossover cable. The PDA will not establish a valid network until the discovery of a DHCP server have timed out, which may take up to 60 seconds. - When connecting to a mega pixel camera, configure the monitor settings to use a low enough resolution that the PDA and network connection can handle. Network Configuration ===================== Here is an example network configuration using a Windows Mobile 5.0 PDA and an Ethernet Adapter. The PDA is configured to use an AutoIP/Link Local address, since the advantage of such an address is that it can be used with almost any network as long as you only connect to local cameras. Connections: - Select Start/Settings/Connections. - Select Connections, under My Work Network, select "Setup my proxy server". Check "This network connects to the Internet". Uncheck the "This network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet." - Select OK to close the proxy dialog. - Select Advanced/Select Networks. - Set both internet and private network to use the work network. - Select OK to close the dialog. - Select OK again to return to the Start/Settings/Connections page. Network Adapter: - Select Start/Settings/Connections. - Select Network Cards. - Set "My network card connects to:" to "Work". - Select the network adapter from the list. - In the network adapter, set it to use a specific IP address. IP: 169.254.1.45 Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0 Leave "Default gateway" blank. Also leave all the DNS and WINS addresses blank. - Select OK to close the adapter dialog. - Select OK to close the Network Cards dialog. For the settings to become active, you may need to turn on and off the PDA or reinsert your network adapter. Note: While the PDA is configured to use an AutoIP address you can still access the AXIS devices using other applications, such as the PDA Internet Explorer, however you will have to use the devices AutoIP address to access them. The device Auto IP address can be found in the properties dialog for that device in AXIS Installation Monitor. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Known limitations ================= - When PTZ Control Queue is enabled in the device, the application may not be able to control PTZ. - When using DHCP and disconnecting/reconnecting to a network, the application may fail to contact the first devices that are discovered. Refreshing the device list solves this. Axis Communications
