NEW SOFTWARE RELEASE ==================== Products involved: AXIS StorPoint CDE100 for Fast Ethernet AXIS StorPoint CDE100 Basic for Fast Ethernet Release date: February 29, 2000 Release type: Release Software version: 5.30 Manual versions: User's Manual 1.5 User's Guide 1.4 Manuals available for download at: http://www.axis.com/products/documentation/manuals.html#sphd File name: cde100_530.bin File size: 2,490,012 bytes Last preceding release: 5.20 --------------------------------------------------------------------- Added features in version 5.30: =============================== 5.30:1 NetWare: Full NetWare 5 compatibility * PureIP, i.e. the server now has native support for NetWare over TCP/IP. IPX support can be used simultaneously or can be disabled completely. * SLP/DHCP/DNS, i.e. services are announced using SLP. NDS trees and servers are found with SLP and/or DHCP and/or DNS. Directory Agents and SLP scopes are supported. 5.30:2 File System: CD-R/RW support The server supports formatting of and writing to CD-R and CD-RW discs. Formatted discs can be closed with a standard ISO9660 header. For more details, consult the StorPoint User's Manual. 5.30:3 Macintosh/AFP: AFP authentication support Support for authentication of Macintosh clients. A Macintosh server can be setup to verify the user names and passwords of Macintosh users. 5.30.4 Macintosh/AFP: Mac security It is possible to set security for volumes in Macintosh networks. 5.30:5 Web: New Cached Disc view page All cached volumes can be seen from this page. It is also possible to delete cached volumes and archive mirrored volumes. 5.30:6 Configuration: New factory default options The new options are: no - No factory default is performed configuration - Server settings are reset (e.g. network settings) volumeProperties - Volume names, and access rights are reset all - All settings are reset to factory default and all hard drives are reformatted 5.30:7 CIFS/SMB/HTTP: Unicode support Support for unicode file names and directory names. This enables for example Japanese and Chinese CD-ROM:s to be used in the StorPoint and the file names will be displayed correctly. Note that volume names still must be in ASCII. 5.30:8 File System: Video CD (VCD) supported Video-CD:s can now be played from the StorPoint. They can also be cached to hard drive if needed. The performance sustains up to 30 simultaneous video streams. Note: Video CD is not the same as DVD Video (which is not supported) 5.30:9 Web/IP: New IP setting method It is possible to set the server's IP address using a Web browser in a Microsoft network (SMB) when using NBT. Please consult the new StorPoint user documentation for more details. 5.30:10 File System: DVD support The StorPoint now supports reading DVD-ROM:s larger than 4 GB. Caching of DVD:s larger than 4 GB is still not supported. For improved performance of DVD:s, we suggest enabling the file cache. This will cache the most commonly used files from the DVD. 5.30.11 File System: Number of cached discs The StorPoint can now cache up to 255 discs on up to 13 hard drives. 5.30.12 Ethernet: Full duplex support The ethernet interface has now enabled the support for full duplex. The functionality is automatically negotiated with the ethernet switches. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Corrected problems in version 5.30: =================================== 5.30:13 CIFS/SMB: Security permissions in Windows 2000 If security permissions were set with a Windows 2000 machine, the files were not accessible from Win9x. 5.30:14 CIFS/SMB: Invalid server names The SMB server name can now contain '_' and '-' as long as they are not the first or last character in the server name. 5.30:15 CIFS/SMB: Server name conflict The Windows configuration wizard was not working if another server on the network had the same name as the Storpoint. The Windows service within the StorPoint did not start. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Added features in version 5.20: =============================== 5.20:1 CIFS/SMB: A lot of new features: * The StorPoint now emulates a Windows NT 4.0 Server. This results in better compatibility with many applications. * Trusted domains are supported. Users from trusted domains can now use a StorPoint installed in a different domain. The StorPoint can now be installed and used in a trusted domain environment just like any Windows NT Server. * Remote administration. Just as with Windows NT servers, access rights are now managed using the standard Windows Explorer. After installation, just access the Properties page of a directory and add/remove/change security on individual discs. * Remote administration. The Server Manager for domains is also supported, although not completely. You can view user statistics and other information in the Server Manager. The following limitations exist: - Description can not be changed - New shares can not be created or deleted - Replication not supported - Alert not supported - Services not supported * Domain Local Groups. Local groups from the domain can be used to set group-based access in the file system of the StorPoint. The local groups will be synchronized with the domain controller every 15 minutes. * User and group names support Unicode. This means better support for non-English languages. * Windows time synchronization. Time can now be setup to synchronize periodically against the domain controller. * Share names up to 80 characters. If Windows NT or 2000 client accesses the StorPoint, it can see up to 80 character long share names. Windows 95/98 and previous clients will still be limited to 12 characters. * International characters supported in server/workgroup/domain names. This means better support for non-English languages. The StorPoint can now have a name with non-ASCII characters or show up in a domain or workgroup with non-ASCII characters. Important Note: Upgrading to the never firmware version will remove all previous access rights configured for SMB. This is due to the new security model introduced and cannot be avoided. 5.20:2 FTP: New access protocol An FTP server has been integrated in the StorPoint. This will allow users to retrieve files from discs attached to the StorPoint. 5.20:3 Flash upgrading: New method introduced Firmware can now be upgraded by dropping the firmware file in a new 'flash' directory underneath the 'System' folder. This can be done using SMB/CIFS, NetWare or NFS. This method is currently not supported from Macintosh/AFP. This method can be used the _next_ time you upgrade the server firmware. 5.20:4 New file system: ISO9660 with Apple extensions Support for Apple extensions on ISO9660 CD-ROMs. The support allows a Macintosh client to retrieve finder information and resource forks. 5.20:5 Macintosh/AFP: Volumes folder added A volumes folder can now be mapped by Macintosh clients, just like in the other protocols. This folder will contain all inserted CD-ROM:s. 5.20.6 Macintosh/AFP: Improved performance Performance when listing directories has been improved tremendously. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Corrected problems in version 5.20: =================================== 5.20:7 DHCP: Failure to get IP address Sometimes DHCP did not work. This was due to a malformed request from the StorPoint. This also caused the server name to look mangled in the DHCP server database. 5.20:8 Macintosh/AFP: Zone list Some AppleTalk routers refused to answer our zone list request. This caused an empty zone list in detailed view and networks settings wizard. 5.20:9 Caching: Performance issues The StorPoint could freeze for a long time when caching some ISO9660 CD-ROMs. This was a result of the layout of the CD-ROM and affected very few CD-ROM:s. 5.20:10 NetWare/Web: Network Settings - Detailed View - NetWare The Time Source parameter could not be saved. 5.20:11 NetWare: Time synchronization not in sync with NDS The synchronized time could be off by as much as one minute relative to the time source. This problem has been corrected. 5.20:12 NetWare: NetWare 5 installation problems Minor problems have been fixed that occasionally made it hard to install the StorPoint in a NetWare 5 network. 5.20:13 NetWare: Applications creating temporary files Wrong error code was used when an application tried to create a temporary file on a CD-ROM. This could cause some applications to fail. 5.20:14 File system: File sharing Several file sharing problems have been fixed. This could affect mostly the scenario when the same file was accessed simultaneously from different operating systems or between different protocols in a multi-protocol environment. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Corrected problems in version 5.10.1: ===================================== 5.10.1:1 Access rights: Lost access rights Some access rights could be lost in the following scenario: 1. Insert disc in shared drive. 2. Archive, eject and unarchive. 3. Change access rights. 4. Insert disc again and archive. 5.10.1:2 SMB: Hanging in user level security mode. In rare conditions the domain controller was never released and all available threads in the CD-ROM server could be reserved. This caused the server to stop responding to incoming requests. 5.10.1:3 NFS/Web: Network Settings - Detailed View - UNIX(NFS) Options could not be saved. Best regards Axis Communications AB
