Appendix B: Software limitations Appendix A - TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION OF RELEASE App A Software version: 2.00 -------------------------------------------------------------------- New features: 1. Flash load via FTP The CD server firmware can be updated via FTP. This is how to do it: 1. Retrieve the updated firmware file from Axis(http://www.axis.se/) or your local distributor. 2. Start FTP session >ftp "CD-server hostname" 3. Login as "root" (default password: "pass", could be edited in the config file) 4. Type "binary", to select binary file transfer mode 5. >put "firmware file" flash 6. After completed download the CD-server will restart with the new firmware. 7. Leave ftp session >quit 2. Factory default via FTP When logged in as root (described above) you could give the command: ftp>get defaults All your settings in the config.ini file and the different volume files will be reset to factory settings. 3. New parameters in config.ini file (104)FactoryDefaults = no ; yes/no If you set this parameter to "yes", save the file and restart the CD-server all settings will be reset to factory default. All your settings in the config.ini file and the different volume files will be lost. (304)BOOTPEnable = yes ; yes/no (305)RARPEnable = yes ; yes/no (403)SMBFrameType = auto ; auto/802_2/dix To make the CD-server available quickly after a reboot (and limit network load) you should manually select the required frametype. When "auto" is selected the CD-server will negotiate on the network after each reboot to select most common frametype. (601)FTPPassword = pass Password used when logging in as "root" via FTP. Corrected bugs: 4. A problem opening Windows helpfiles (located on a CD) with a Win95 client has been solved in V2.00. 5. Hidden files on CD-ROM's may now be read. They will appear as normal files. 6. SCSI now handles old drives using 512 bytes blocks instead of 2048 bytes. 7. Handles ISO-9660 and High Sierra file systems with extended attributes correctly. 8. Deals correctly with seek from end of file with offset 0 in SMB (NT clients do that occasionally). 9. Behaves correctly when volume titles contain illegal characters. In this case a random title (CD_XXXXX) is generated automatically. 10. A problem reading files from some CD's has been corrected. The problem has been detected for CD's created with Kodak Multiwrite and Kodak PCD 22. The CD server did not correctly read/copy files, located close to the end of the data sector on these CD's. 11. A problem saving the config.ini file in some UNIX versions (SUN OS 4) has been corrected. Appendix B - SOFTWARE LIMITATIONS Software version: 2.00 -------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Installing and running Microsoft Encarta 96 with a Windows 95 client will not work if you map according to the manual. Workaround: Use the path \\AXIS\. when mapping. That is instead of mapping "root", "cd" or the actual volume name use only ".".
