FIRMWARE RELEASE NOTES ====================== Products affected: AXIS 216FD/216FD-V Network Cameras Release date: 2006-09-04 Release type: Production Firmware version: 4.40 File name: 216FD_440.bin Preceding release: 4.34 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ UPGRADE INSTRUCTIONS ==================== The firmware can be upgraded using Axis Camera Management 2.0, HTTP or FTP. Please follow the instructions from the user's manual, the web page at http://www.axis.com/techsup/cam_servers/how_to_upgrade.htm or the file named howtoupgrade.txt. RELEASE 4.40 ============ New features ============== 4.40:F01 Support for IPv6. 4.40:F02 Support for QoS. The product uses the DiffServ model and marks the following classes: Live Video, Live Audio, Event/Alarm and Management. 4.40:F03 Support for 802.1x/EAPOL(Extensible Authentication Protocol Over Lan) using EAP-TLS (EAP-Transport Layer Security). 4.40:F04 Added a parameter containing the path to the administrator web page (root.Properties.API.HTTP.AdminPath). 4.40:F05 Now possible to disable network services such as FTP, RTSP etc. See System Options | Support | System Overview for a list of the services that can be disabled. 4.40:F06 Added process list, /proc/netstat, ifconfig and vmstatus to the Server Report. 4.40:F07 A toolbar with a play and stop button is now available when using the Mozilla/Firefox browser. 4.40:F08 AXIS Media Control now has a reconnection strategy accessible from Control Panel on the Windows client. This allows the user to decide how the AMC client should handle a loss of connectivity with the product, i.e. for how long the product will try to reconnect and at which interval. 4.40:F09 Recording of MPEG-4 streams to an .asf file with the AXIS Media Control. This functionality is enabled in the Live View Config menu. For more info see also the AXIS Media Control user's manual, available at: http://www.axis.com/techsup/software/amc/index.htm. 4.40:F10 Now possible to configure the mail server's port (default 25). Modifications ============= 4.40:M01 The view size buttons in Live View have been removed. 4.40:M02 Some Video Settings have been moved. White balance is now available from 'Basic' settings, while Color level, Brightness and Sharpness are available from 'Advanced' settings. 4.40:M03 Added Seoul in GMT+9 time zone. 4.40:M04 Reduced latency for I/O alarm trigger. 4.40:M05 Adjusted microphone sensitivity so that low audio levels also trigger alarms. 4.40:M06 Adjusted buffer size in the AXIS Media Java Applet Audio Framework, to avoid audio hacking. Corrections in 4.40 since 4.34 ============================== 4.40:C01 Improved event error handling, especially while using motion detection. 4.40:C02 When an event failed to upload its images, it could happen that the buffer data was not removed from the file system, eventually causing a 'Cache Full'. At this point no more images could be uploaded. This issue has now been corrected. 4.40:C03 Motion detection no longer gives intermittent false alarms when image is rotated. 4.40:C04 Corrected AXIS Media Control filter installation procedure on Windows systems using Windows Security Update (KB 896688). See the FAQ: http://www.axis.com/techsup/faq/index.php?id=63639 4.40:C05 The HTTP response is now correct when the time is set backwards using the VAPIX. 4.40:C06 It is now possible to use the 'force' option (param.cgi) in VAPIX. 4.40:C07 FTP login issue due to long signon message (longer than 256 characters) has been resolved. 4.40:C08 Improved stability of streaming MPEG4, when using QuicktTime, for certain product configurations (Internal info: IP number ending with two digits number). 4.40:C09 It is now possible to upgrade the product when NAT traversal functionality is enabled. 4.40:C10 Improved stability of MPEG-4 streaming when using limited frame rate. 4.40:C11 It is now possible to upload own web pages to the camera. Known limitations ================= 4.40:L01 If you choose to rotate the image in the Video & Image setup, be aware that the coordinates for motion detection windows created in the Motion Detection setup will not be rotated. Workaround: When defining motion detection windows, temporarily configure the image for 0 degrees of rotation. Change back to the desired rotation again after having defined the motion windows. 4.40:L02 If you set compression to 0% the frame rate may decrease substantially for Motion JPEG for certain scenes. This is because the image size may not exceed 128 KB. Workaround: Set the compression to 5% instead. The image quality will not suffer noticeably, but the image size will be much smaller. 4.40:L03 Including format field #r, #R, #b or #B in the text overlay will show an incorrect frame rate and bandwidth usage when the frame rate is limited for Motion JPEG. 4.40:L04 If you have more than one IE window running the AXIS Media Control and audio enabled, you may experience a delay that increases over time in all but the topmost window. 4.40:L05 Viewing full screen and sequencing through different external video sources with different video streams in a sequence will switch the full screen mode off. 4.40:L06 The AXIS Media Control may stop displaying the MPEG-4 stream after the screensaver has been active, or when the computer has been locked. Workaround: Reload the Live View page. 4.40:L07 Using dual screens and moving the AXIS Media Control window from one screen to the other can result in unexpected behavior. Workaround: Reload the Live View page. 4.40:L08 The Axis Media Control should reload itself on audio configuration changes on server. Sometimes it does not. Workaround: Reload the Live View page. 4.40:L09 When using G.726 audio encoding, audio will not be available in QuickTime. Workaround: Choose G.711 or AAC encoding instead if you are using QuickTime. 4.40:L10 If viewing the image stream on Mac OS X with Mozilla Firefox using the AXIS Media Java Applet, a third party plug-in may be needed to get the browser to use the correct Java version. The Java Embedding Plug-in can be found at http://javaplugin.sourceforge.net/. 4.40:L11 If you use G.726 or AAC audio encoding, audio will not be available in the AXIS Media Java Applet. Workaround: Choose G.711 encoding when using the AXIS Media Java Applet. 4.40:L12 When saving a snapshot image, some Web browsers (e.g. Mozilla) will fetch a new picture and the saved picture will not match the displayed snapshot. 4.40:L13 The Mozilla Web browser does not always close the image stream properly when leaving the Live View page. Restarting the stream can sometimes fail as well. Restarting Mozilla solves these two problems. 4.40:L14 If the RTSP port is changed when the RTSP server is disabled, then "Unicast RTP" and "RTP over RTSP" will not work in AMC when the RTSP server is enabled again ("RTP over RTSP over HTTP" will however work). Workaround: Disable the RTSP server and then re-enable it again. Application Developer Information ================================= The AXIS VAPIX API - Application Programming Interface (available at www.axis.com) is supported by the AXIS 216FD.
